A volunteer or intern can offer their skills for any function they seem fits into How we fight AIDS. It is possible to work at all institutions of Our organisation (at the main office, at 7 drop in centres in slum areas and at the orphanage). While we do not force anybody to be innovative, we appreciate when volunteers and interns bring fresh insights and perspectives. Therefore, if you have concrete ideas about a possible stay at KENWA, please mention that in your cover letter (in the past, such ideas included a new website, better online funding and a short documentary). Of course, to see your potential in our organisation from thousands of miles away is hard. And so is presenting our organisation in a way that enables you to do so. Therefore, normally volunteers and interns first come to the main office where they help with project proposals that are sent to funds and join field trips. This has been appreciated, because it reduces the culture shock a little for those who have never been to a slum area. You need to pay us for your expenses and will be volunteering. With the flight and your expenses paid, you can theoretically live without any further expenses. Note that you are not paying to work here, of course. We cover your expenses and donate whatever is left to KENWA.
So, what can you do concretely... ...at the office? The office is the place for you if you have good administrative or computer skills. Like mentioned above, you maybe helping to write project proposals to funds, do IT support, maintain our websites or help with office work. We also encourage knowledge transfer to our full-time staff. ...at a drop in centre? While there is too administrative work to be done at the drop in centres, they are definitely closer to the grassroots community we are so proud of. You will get opportunities to do home visits (not alone of course), participate in community outreach events, VCT and group therapy sessions. ...at the orphanage? At the orphanage you help with whatever is involved in raising children. You help to bath them, clean their clothes, feed them, put them to sleep, make their beds, rooms and bathrooms, take them to school, pick them up again, help with their home work, play with them and, if they are HIV positive, their ARV drug adherence. |
